                                             Journal entry: 7

Its been such a long time since I last posted on my blog it was 2014 and now its 2015 already.
Time does pass so quickly.  I had a wonderful winter vacation and its time for school now which mean time to get serious. The last thing we did before our winter break was our individual portfolio. This individual portfolio was a practice for year 2 so it would be easier and more convenient to do it.
We first started by writing reflections on our personal context and then went around sharing it with the whole class, the point of doing that was so we could select partners who we could work best with.
Our group consisted of Divina, Sadish, Kashyap and me. I was really happy to be working with them.
We chose the stimulus which we were about to use for starting our own piece of theatre which was
a music  video " GIVE ME LOVE". We really liked this video as it had a female protagonist in it which most musical videos do not have. Every day we kept sharing our ideas to make our own play. We all had different ideas so we were quite confused as we had so much things we wanted to add but our play was suppose to about only 5 minutes. We started with different excerciese after that we would plan about our play. We had decided that we would have a female protagonist and it would be about her life, we even decided focusing  different scenic elements like lighting and sound. As we progressed we kept deciding different things that would make our play better. We tried searching for different sound effects to make our play to look more realistic. Every idea shared or used for play was noted down as our play practice proceeded so did our portfolio entry. We had to mention everything we did in our portfolio. On our final day of performance it did not go according to the plan but we did get good feedback form the audience which was really a good thing.  I noted everything that happened in my portfolio. Even though our play did not go well, I think my team mates and I did a good job. As being theatre students it had this opportunity had given us a way to explore theatre in a very different way.
I really enjoyed doing and feel that i have gained so much form it.
Over the winter break we had to read Chapter 10 "Theatre in Asia" which was very interesting. I think what made it more interesting is that I am also an asian. I did know much about asian theatre before after reading this i gave me a very simple understanding about it.  I was really amazed by the different styles and methods different asian countries practiced. Asian's theatre to me seems so rich and pure. It sure looked difficult how even young girls performed with perfection. I did watch videos regarding this chapter and learnt a lot of new things. Three days before our school started we had our "Check please" practice. We always started with different thearitical  games which removed us form being a sleepy head. Being an assistant theatre gave me a chance to look at theatre in a very different way.We all had a great time, the play was going on very well and everyone acted very well. It was very exciting to see my friends act on the same with different characteristics. As we are going to present our play next month  hope it goes really well.
Its 2nd semester and I hope we have a great time in theatre class :)
